EXCERPT
“Pardon my excitement you both but I…I am in love with Amber.” He told them, failing to realize how upset they looked.
Amber wanted to disappear into the earth but there was no such escape for her. She saw Rhea's chin tighten like one fighting a decision. Rhea walked down the stairs, coming to face Arnold. Isis stepped down too and came to stand beside Rhea.
“All I’ve ever wanted was for you to love me as I’ve loved you willingly but you have been ungrateful, refusing to reciprocate.”
“Oh Rhea, am so sorry but the heart chooses whom it chooses.” He explained to her.
“Does it?” She snapped. “Well, how about now?”
Rhea yanked off the shawl, revealing her neck and Amber eyed the beautiful necklace on her neck. It was a rosy Pearl necklace with a single white pearl in the middle. The necklace lay about 18 inches down her neck. Only spiritual eyes, however, could have seen the mist that emanated from Rhea's necklace, dancing in spirals as it journeyed its way across to Arnold's chest to rest exactly where his heart lay.
Like fire, it seared itself into his heart, wrapping around it like an orb. It rested there, invincible to the human eye. Hence all Amber could hear was his gasp and when she looked at him, she saw how his eyes were glued to Rhea's necklace.
She believed he admired it too but found it a little odd when he began to approach Rhea, slowly and determinedly like someone who was transfixed. Rhea approached him too and when they were close to each other, he reached out a hand to feel the necklace and touch the single white pearl, before looking deep into Rhea's eyes.
“There comes a time in everybody’s life when they finally decide who they want to be with,” he said and Rhea gave him a sultry smile. “That time for me is now. I don’t know what I’ve been doing but I think I've been stupid. Now that you’re here, I want you to know that you’re the one I need.”
Amber was shocked at the sudden change in Arnold's mouth. She was confused and his words to Rhea stabbed her like a weapon, penetrating deep into her soul. Watching the exchange of smiles between Rhea and her mother worsened the pain. Was Arnold in his right senses? She wondered or had just revealed himself to be a liar.
